the belt buckle is key
Feb. 25th, 2009 11:05 pmI seem to be spending a lot of time at Indiana University these days.
I'm on my official "you got admitted, come talk to us" visit, currently sitting in the library with Lindsey. She's working on her compiler, I'm looking at the readings for classes that I'm going to sit in on tomorrow (one on machine learning and one on web mining).
Today I've been meeting professors and talking to students. The whole situation seems designed to make me feel like a grumpy old man. See, I can conceptualize being older than undergraduates, but most of the other incoming PhD students are just finishing up their bachelors now, making them... younger than my little sister.
Oh! And earlier tonight I got to meet Dan Friedman, at a little party at his house. He's really friendly. I didn't have anything clever to say to Doug Hofstadter, so I didn't, but he was there. With a big belt buckle.
